A hawker is a common sight on a street of a city or a town or in a compartment of a train. He carries things sometimes on his head, sometimes in his hands, sometimes in a bag and sometimes in a small hand-cart. He sells various kinds of things including sweets, drinks, books, pens, medicines and what not.

We had a journey by train as we wished to spend a few days at Puri during the Puja vacation. We travelled by the Puri Express which left Howrah station half an hour after the scheduled time. We expected the usual pre-Puja rush of passengers. But when we arrived at the station, we noticed, however, that the crowd was not so great.
